Why do so many women dislike curly/wavy hair?

Pretty much every woman I know straightens her hair. Personally I think long curly/wavy hair looks gorgeous and whenever I see a woman with one, for me she stands out from the crowd. :]

My hair is naturally curly and I hated it when I was growing up. I bought my first hair straightener when I was 13 and after that I refused to go out without straightening my hair first. I hated the crazy, unruly nature of my hair. I thought it looked messy and unattractive, whereas when I straightened it, it looked more polished and "put together." However, it's a fairly laborious task. I have to put a couple products in my hair when it's wet, then blow dry it with a brush. Then I spray it with a heat protector and run the flat iron over my hair section by section. I try to protect my hair from all of this styling damage as much as I can, but there's only so much I can do. It does start to take a toll on the lustre of my hair's appearance.

So this past year, out of laziness, I began to experiment with styling my hair curly. Now, I'm able to put a little smoothing serum into my hair when I get out of the shower and then allow it to air dry. This brings out my natural texture, while helping to eliminate the frizziness that naturally occurs with curly hair.

Since I started wearing it curly, I've gotten so many compliments on my hair! (Something I NEVER got before when I would straighten it all the time.) I still straighten it a few times a week when I feel like it, but I really like my hair's natural texture now. I think part of the reason why I got so many compliments is the fact that curly/wavy hair stands out more. Everyone straightens their hair it seems, so even if it looks good straight, it isn't noticeable. It's just straight hair. Granted, some women have great hair and it can look gorgeous straight, but I've found that it's best to go with your hair's natural texture rather than fight it. When I wear it curly it has more character. It's okay if it gets a little messed up in the wind. It actually makes it look better! Lol. So I can really say now that I've come to love and embrace my crazy, messy, wild hair :)

• I actually much prefer hair with a bit of wave to it. My hair is naturally quite curly, but I admit that I do run my straightener through it just to make it a little tamer. I don't really like my hair fully straight because it looks too flat, whereas the wave or curls gives the hair a bit of volume (which also applies to others as well). I agree, curly and wavy hair is much nicer :)
• Hhmmm...thats strange,I have Long wavy brown hair and I don't mind it...I hate straightening my hair so I never do it,to me its like trying to be something I'm not,and plus it kills your hair...lol
  
  But yeah I know what you mean,there's not one girl that I've come across that doesn't own a straightener...lol
  But I think its because Straightened hair is more durable,more tolerable with weather conditions etc...so you don't have to put so much effort into putting it in a do the next morning...

• Perfect curls are a thing of beauty. They are also a complete mystery for most of us. Ive experimented with my curly hair for years and still struggle to stop it turning into a frizzy mess.
  
  Its also a matter of confidence. I might look like the sugar puff monster or I might look like jennifer aniston. When your as self conscious as I am its not really a difficult choice!
• I have long curly hair and never straighten it. I get loads of compliments from males and females! I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of straightening it. When it's curly you can get away with it being a wee bit messy too.
• i straighten my hair because mine isnt curly or wavy is crazy so i either have to wear it up becuz i made the mistake of not doing anything to it on day and got picked on allllll day

• i always straighten my hair as its too unmanageable when its curly & goes to frizzy in any weather conditions other than perfectly still & cold lol!!
