Can you check if a diamond is fake by holding up the flame from a lighter near to it?
my brother was doing it to my diamond ring the other day, he wouldnt tell me what he was doing, was he checking to see if it was real or something?

i said he was holding the lighter up NEAR to it..not burning it..morons

Hmm even though he didnt have the flame on the diamond it can still ruin it, be careful. Theres a trick too see if a diamond is fake put it by your mouth and breath hot air onto it (to make it fog up) if its fake it will stay fogged for 2-4 seconds but if its real you shouldnt see fog on it by the time you take it away from your mouth too look at it. maybe he was using the heat as a similar method? Try asking him again =]

- You check it by scratching it against a mirror or something. Burning it is something new to me
- Be careful Diamonds will burn like coal.
